Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr says he will never return to the ring

A boxing record of 50/50 in the ring, an Olympic bronze in 1996, a Guinness World record, three golden gloves and a long list of achievements speeches for Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s extraordinary career. The ‘Pretty Boy’ of the boxing world announced his retirement in 2017, after completing a 50 match streak and sending McGregor home with a TKO.

After rumours of his comeback started making rounds, Mayweather said that boxing was over for him.
“I’m retired. I’m through with boxing. It don’t hurt to stay in shape. Your body’s your temple. Just in the gym keeping sharp. Not for boxing, just for myself. Training fighters and enjoying myself during this [coronavirus] pandemic.”

He has been mentoring and promoting next generation fighters ever since. Despite his active involvement in the sport, when rumours of a return came up, the 43-year-old again shut everything down by saying that he wants to continue only with exhibitions.

“As of right now, I’m doing exhibitions. I’m 100% sure that I’m not fighting against any boxer anymore. So, that’s out of the question. I mean, just my faculties mean a lot to me. Money don’t make me, I make money and my health is more important than money. As far as me doing exhibitions and me fighting MMA guys, will I do that in a box ring? Absolutely,” Mayweather told CNN.

According to Forbes, Mayweather’s fight against Conor McGregor at Las Vegas, the last one of his celebrated professional career generated more than $550 million in revenue. Mayweather earned a reported $275 million, a sum generated both from his roles as fighter and also promoter.
