England and Manchester City attacker Phil Foden joined the England training camp with dyed blonde hair, reminiscent of former England footballer Paul Gascoigne’s hairdo. Although the 21-year-old insisted that he was not trying to emulate Gascoigne, he said that it would not be a bad thing to “bring a bit” of the former England international.

Gascoigne was part of the England team that made the semifinals of the 1990 World Cup and 1996 European Championship and also made 57 appearances for the team.

When asked if he meant to copy the former footballer, he said that he was not. “I remember watching highlights on the TV of Gazza (Gascoigne) – an unbelievable player”, said Foden. “The full nation knows what he means to the country and what he did, so it won’t be too bad if I try to bring a bit of Gazza on to the pitch”.

“I have to try and keep my feet on the ground and just being me and keep doing what has done well for me this year”, added the 21-year-old.

Foden arrived at St George’s Park, the national football centre of England, to join the rest of the team, ahead of Euro 2020, for the preparations.

Foden won the PFA Young Player of the Year after a fine season with Manchester City, having scored nine goals with five assists in the league. The club went on to win the league, EFL Cup and also made the finals of the Champions League.

Foden has made six appearances for the national team so far. He was also part of the under-17 team that won the World Cup in India in 2017.
