French President
Emmanuel Macron
asked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to choose the post
Brexit model
that his country wishes to follow with Europe, insisting that it’s time to choose who their
allies are, according to an interview published in The Guardian.

“What
politics does Great Britain wish to choose? It cannot be the best ally of the
US, the best ally of the EU and the new Singapore,” Emmanuel was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

The French President further sated that UK must clarify if they decide to go with a completely transatlantic approach so that the European Union can ponder upon the divergence in rules and access to
markets.

Denouncing Johnson’s
view of advocating that the UK could benefit from tax-free ports like Singapore
Macron told Guardian, “If Britain decides to be the new Singapore, which it has once
suggested … well, I don’t know. It’s not for me to decide, but I would like
good, peaceful relations.”

The French
president also hoped that Boris Johnson would also see Britain and Europe’s
future aligned together as he does and wished they share “common destiny” as
the history of both the nations suggest.

“I hope Boris
Johnson is also on that path, because I think the British people are. We remain
allies. History and geography don’t change,” he added.

Meanwhile, Macron on
Friday told media that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the British-Swedish
pharma company AstraZeneca appears to be ineffective on adults over the age of
65.

Macron’s statements came right before the European Medicines
Agency (EMA) recommended the AstraZeneca doses for adults of all ages and the EU
threatened to partially close Britain’s border with the Republic of Ireland following diplomatic tensions over COVID-19 vaccine supplies.
