India vs South Africa 2nd T20I: India win by 16 runs, seal series
- India beat South Africa by 16 runs in the 2nd T20I
- India lead the series 2-0, registering their first T20I series win vs the Proteas
- India scored 237 runs in their 20 overs. South Africa scored 221
India won the second T20I against South Africa by 16 runs. The Indian team put together a total of 237 runs in their 20 overs. South Africa had a slow start losing two quick wickets right at the beginning of their innings, including of their captain Temba Bavuma. However, David Miller with his century and Quinton De Kock with his 69 brought them back into the game.
The Proteas needed 36 runs in the last over and with the first ball being hit for a six, the impossible seemed possible. But that was not to be. South Africa finished their 20 overs with 221 runs on board, 16 runs less than India.
India’s win over South Africa also means that the Men-in-Blue have won the three-match T20I series. India had beaten South Africa by eight wickets. This is India’s first T20I series win against South Africa.
India had a solid start from the get-go. Openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma put up a solid partnership just four runs short of a hundred. Rahul scored 57 runs signalling a return to form, one that has eluded him since the Asia Cup, while Rohit Sharma, the skipper, managed a 43-run knock.
The pick of Indian batters, however, was Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav scored 61 runs of which 54 came in boundaries. Lovingly called Sky by teammates and fans, Yadav hit 5 fours and 5 balls out of the park.
South African bowling could hardly show any impact on the Indian batters. The only bowler who managed something was Keshav Maharaj who took two wickets having given 23 runs.
The South African batting seemed geared to fail against the attack of Arshdeep Singh. Singh took two wickets in his very first over making the Proteas wary of going on and out-and-out attack. But David Miller and Quinton de Kock made waves. Miller scored a solid century, 106, which de Kock scored 69 runs. Both were not out at the end of the innings. South Africa were limited to 221 runs.
