Suryakumar Yadav reached many milestones as he registered a 23-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2022 on November 6. Yadav hit six boundaries and four maximum in his innings, lighting up the Melbourne Cricket Ground with his shots. His half-century helped India beat Zimbabwe by 71 runs and finish Super 12 in the top of Group 2 standings.

Zimbabwe bowlers were helpless, with Yadav hitting them all around the stadium. He became the first Indian and the second batter overall to reach 1000 runs in T20Is in a single calendar year, after Pakistan opener Mohammed Rizwan, who did the same in 2021.

Third most runs scored in last five overs for India in T20Is

It was Suryakumar Yadav’s 360 degrees shot making, that allowed India to score 83 runs in the final six overs while only losing one wicket. Yadav scored 57 runs out of these 83 total runs, hitting six boundaries and four maximums. The strike rate of Yadav in death is 247 in T20Is.

Yadav’s 56 runs in the last five overs against Zimbabwe is the third best for India in T20Is, after Yuvraj Singh’s 58 vs England in Durban, 2007 and Virat Kohli’s 63 runs in the last five overs vs Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2022.

Highest strike rate in T20 World Cup (100+ balls faced):

Yadav now also has the best strike rate in a T20 World Cup with 193.96. He overtook Michael Hussey’s strike rate of 175.70 which he set in 2010 edition of the T20 World Cup. It is because of Yadav’s heroics that India have been able to score freely in death overs in the tournament.
