Ireland’s Joshua Little made history when he became the second bowler from the country after Curtis Campher to claim a hattrick in the T20 World Cup. The 23-year-old achieved the feat on Friday, November 4, when Ireland faced New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 fixture at Adelaide Oval.

Little claimed the crucial wickets of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, James Neesham and Mitchell Santner. With the hattrick, he also became the sixth bowler in the history of the T20 World Cup to achieve the feat. Before the Irishman, Brett Lee, Curtis Campher, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kagiso Rabada and Karthik Meiyappan were the other bowlers who had achieved the feat.

Ireland won the toss in the match and decided to field first. Batting first, New Zealand scored 185 runs for six wickets, with captain Kane Williamson playing an inspiring knock of 61 runs off 35 balls, with a strike rate of 174.29. He also hit five boundaries and three maximums.

However, Williamson’s innings came to an end at the hands of Ireland’s left-arm pacer Joshua Little in the second ball of the 19th over. Little also went on to dismiss James Neesham and Mitchell Santner in the third and fourth balls of the 19th over to complete his hattrick.

Curtis Campher became the first-ever Irish cricketer to claim a hattrick in the T20 World Cup when he achieved the feat against the Netherlands in the 2021 edition in Abu Dhabi. One year after Campher’s heroics, Joshua Little has now become the second player from the British Isles to register the achievement.
