Liverpool will see James Milner remain after accepting a contract extension up to June 2023. The Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp wanted the English midfielder to stay with the Premier League side, and be a part of the team next season. The 36-year-old has also agreed to reduce his salary, as Fabrizio Romano reported.

The Anfield side has seen a fantastic season that could have ended better. Liverpool won both the FA and Carabao Cups, and played all possible fixtures in the season, having landed a Champions League final date against Real Madrid. However, the Merseyside team lost both the CL and PL titles to Madrid and Manchester City respectively. While the first defeat came due to some stellar goalkeeping from Thibaut Courtois, the second was a nail-biting end to the current season that saw City win at the last moment.

Liverpool fans have been left heartbroken after the CL loss though Klopp has tried to assure everyone that the team will bounce back. However, they also look poised to lose some players. Sadio Mane, the Senegalese forward, has already been linked to a Bayern Munich move.

Mohamad Salah, the Egyptian wonder, is staying for this season, but if his contract isn’t improved, the forward will be looking for a new home as well. Klopp, who extended his managerial contract, was asked if his staying would influence their decisions. At the time, the manager had said that the players could do what they chose to with their lives.

Divock Origi has left the club too and signed a deal with AC Milan, reportedly.

The Reds will be looking to further improve the next season, and perhaps win the Champions League. Klopp already told fans to book the hotel where the final match will take place, guaranteeing the team’s journey to the top fixture of the most prestigious club tournament.
