After Tripura, Nagaland assembly echoes with national anthem for the first time | Watch

Indian National Anthem was played during the seventh session of the 13th legislative assembly of Nagaland on February 12 for the first time since the creation of the state, said cabinet minister and president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland state unit Temjen Imna Along.

The historical moment was witnessed before and after Nagaland Governor RN Ravi’s inaugural address.

According to media reports, Dr PJ Antony, who is the assembly commissioner and secretary confirmed that playing of Jana Gana Mana was never a part of Nagaland assembly’s convention. He added that the move was well appreciate and welcomed by members of all the parties.

Former speaker of the house, Neiba Ndang told Hindustan Times that this was not the practice during his tenure but he believes that there is nothing wrong in playing National Anthem.

On March 23, 2018, the national anthem was played for the first time in the Tripura assembly, during the first session of the newly-elected House.

The House assembled at 11 am for the election of the speaker and the session began with the national anthem.
