Mohamed Salah is one of the biggest current icons of the football-crazy city of Liverpool. A Stanford University study had shown in 2019 that hate crimes in the Merseyside area had reduced by 18.9 per cent after Salah signed for the Reds. However, this positive influence has not shielded him from getting trolled on social media for his Christmas celebration post.

Salah shared a picture of himself celebrating Christmas with his wife and two daughters:

Soon after his post, people began trolling the prolific goalscorer on social media:

While most of the posts on social media that made fun of the football star were made in jest, another one was not so amusing. The user said, “I trust Kano Hisbah, Mo Salah would’ve been arrested and punished publicly for setting his children on the wrong path”. Check out the post right here:

Another Twitter user defended Salah, saying, “Mo Salah only honored the Christmas holiday, he didn’t renounce his faith (even if he can). When Christians send “best wishes” to Musl!ms during the Islamic holidays it’s well appreciated, but a Muslim can n¤t do the same? Religion isn’t slavery, promote harmony. Live & let live.”

This is not the first time that Salah has been on the receiving end of trolls and hatred on social media for celebrating Christmas while being a Muslim himself.
