Liverpool‘s Harvey Elliott suffered a horrific knee injury during his team’s Premier League clash against Leeds United at Elland Road. The England youth international was brought down just around the hour mark and was stretchered off the field. Soon after he went down, Mohammed Salah frantically asked the game to be stopped and gesticulated for medical attention.

Leeds United player Pascal Struijk, who committed the foul, was shown the red card by referee Craig Pawson after a VAR review.

Elliott was clearly in pain before he was taken off on a stretcher.

Belgian centre-back Struijk was consoled by Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk while the Liverpool player received treatment.

Liverpool supporters sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as the youngster left the pitch.

So far, Elliott has featured in every game for Liverpool and made his team debut in September 2019.

When the incident happened, Liverpool were leading 2-0 against Leeds United.

Soon after he was taken off the field, he provided an update on his official Instagram handle, with a message for the fans.

Commenting on the injury, former footballer Gary Lineker said: “Hope this is not as serious an injury to Harvey Elliott as it appears. Didn’t look a bad challenge or a red card in normal speed, but without replays it’s hard to be sure. Just a freak accident, I reckon.”

Former Premier League player Michael Owen said: “Sickening injury to Harvey Elliott. Feel so sorry for the young lad. His career was only just getting started. Here’s hoping he makes a full recovery.”

As far as the match is concerned, Liverpool registered a handsome 3-0 victory over Leeds United. Salah (20th minute), Fabinho (50th minute) and Sadio Mane (90+2) scored the goals for Liverpool.

With his strike, the Egyptian became the 30th player to reach the milestone. He also joined a rare company of Premier League legends in notching up triple figures in the top flight.

He also became the fifth-fastest to reach such a tally. Only former Blackburn and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, ex-Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Arsenal hero Thierry Henry were able to achieve the feat in lesser games.

Salah became the 30th player to hit the magic number.
