For Kyle Wright, this is the 26-year-old’s first major league appearance since June 23. Wright last pitched on October 2, throwing seven shutout innings for Triple-A Gwinnett against Jacksonville. In two major league games this season, he went 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA, while in 24 starts for Gwinnett, he was 10-5 with a 3.02 ERA.

Wright made two starts in the 2020 playoffs, pitching six scoreless innings against Miami in Game 3 of the Division Series and surrendering seven runs with only two outs in Game 3 of the Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Joc Pederson, a current Braves teammate, smashed a three-run home run, and Edwin Ros followed with a single drive.

Gore was on the roster for the Division Series against Milwaukee, and he only saw action in Game 2 as a pinch-runner for Pederson.

Gonzalez, a member of the 2017 World Series winner Houston Astros, hasn’t played since the regular season’s final game on Oct. 3. After being released by the Red Sox in August, he was signed by the Astros and hit.176 in 34 at-bats.

Meyers’ left shoulder was injured when he collided with a wall during Game 4 of the Division Series on Oct. 12, and he hasn’t played since.

Because of scheduling and COVID-19, the Astros and Braves haven’t seen each other since 2017. They’ll now meet for Game 1 on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park, with Valdez starting against Charlie Morton, a former Houston ace.

The Astros opened as a 3-2 favourite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
