With only 15 months left on Mohamed Salah‘s Liverpool contract and no renewal in sight, there has been plenty of speculation of late about the 30-year-old maestro’s future, with rumours suggesting that he could be eyeing a move to La Liga.

However, according to the ever reliable Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that Salah is completely committed to the Merseyside club and has said that a renewal is still being worked upon.

“Mo Salah contract saga’s not creating any problem. Mo’s not like that. He’s completely committed this season, then we’ll talk about the rest – future, immediate, further. The decisive parties are in contact and the rest we will see,” Romano quoted Klopp as saying ahead of Liverpool’s high-stakes match against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Talks between Salah and Liverpool stalled in December 2021 after the club reportedly refused to meet the Egyptian’s wage demands and reports last week suggested that negotiations between Liverpool and Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas had not resumed since then.

Salah’s contract saga also made the headlines last week when Abbas responded on social media to Klopp’s comments about the Egyptian’s contract with laughing emojis, suggesting something was amiss.

However, during the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Klopp played down the seriousness of the reported stalled negotiations, telling the press, “I can confirm he [Salah] is in a good mood.”

Asked about whether he had to remind Salah to focus on this season for a possible quadruple, the German said, “No, no, I don’t have to remind any player and for sure not Mo. No chance! This season everyone is completely committed.”

Since joining Liverpool in 2018, Salah has played 171 out of 180 Premier League games, and has managed to score a mind-blowing 20+ goals in each of his four seasons thus far in top flight English football, a feat achieved only by five others before him: Alan Shearer, Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry, Harry Kane, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The 30-year-old forward has also expressed his desire to finish his career at Liverpool several times, and it remains to be seen whether the Merseyside club can come to agreement to retain one of the best forwards in world football.
