NBA Finals: Warriors’ Stephen Curry goes ice cold in 4th quarter

Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry is with no doubt the undisputed 3-point king. His impressive streak from behind the arc officially has come to an end.
There was plenty to celebrate as the Warriors took Game 5 of the NBA Finals from the Boston Celtics by a score of 104-94 on Monday night as the Warriors inched one step closer to another title. The crowd at Chase Centre also witnessed Curry’s first-ever NBA playoff game without making a 3-pointer.

Just a few days removed from his legendary Game 4 performance, Curry finished Monday’s matchup with 16 points on 7-of-22 shooting from the field. He missed all nine of his 3-point attempts in the victory.
Prior to Game 5, Curry had gone 38 straight playoff games with multiple 3-point makes and 223 straight games in both the regular season and the playoffs with at least one.

Marcus Smart added another one and then Boston made its first five 3-pointers in the third quarter — including three from Tatum — and led 66-61 after a three-point play from Grant Williams.

The Celtics then missed their next seven from long range with the key point coming at the close of the third quarter when Jaylen Brown missed a pull-up with 6 seconds left and Boston was slow to get back on defence, leading to a buzzer-beater from 3 by Jordan Poole that gave Golden State the lead.
Boston’s frustration boiled over early in the fourth quarter starting when Klay Thompson hit a 3-pointer on a play the Celtics wanted a push-off called. Coach Ime Udoka, who got a technical early, got heated with official Tony Brothers during a timeout and it just built from there.

With Game 6 that is all set to be held on Thursday at TD Garden, Curry will be looking to start a brand new streak as the Warriors try to close out the series and take their fourth NBA title in eight seasons back to the Bay.
