NBA: Memphis Grizzlies take 3-2 lead in Playoffs, beat Minnesota Timberwolves 111-109

Memphis Grizzlies are now one point ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Playoff series after the away team suffered a tight 111-109 on Tuesday night. The Playoff tally now stands 3-2 in favour of the Grizzlies.

The last moment push to give Memphis Grizzlies the edge over their rivals came from NBA All-Star guard Ja Morant. Fans cheered as Morant leaped through the air for a big dunk at the end of the third quarter.

Morant scored the last 11 points for Memphis, and his layup with a second left capped the Grizzlies’ big rally from 11 points down in the fourth quarter to edge the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Morant, named the NBA’s most improved player on Monday, struggled mightily much of the game. But he turned it on in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 points — including 9 of 10 at the free-throw line. His lone 3 of the game came with 1:03 left, giving Memphis its first lead since the first quarter.  

Morant finished with 30 and had 13 rebounds and nine assists. Desmond Bane added 25 points, and Brandon Clarke had 21 off the bench for Memphis, and Jaren Jackson Jr. added 12 before fouling out.

Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards were the top players for the losing side, scoring 28 and 22 points each. D’Angelo Russel followed the top list and scored a dozen points.

Timberwolves dominated the court for till the tally reached 99-88 in their favour, however, a few fouls and a last moment push from the Grizzlies gave fans a thrilling conclusion to a high stakes game.

The two Playoff rivals will now meet on Friday night for their sixth clash, with Memphis Grizzlies aiming for one more stride to a series victory. Minnesota Timberwolves, on the other hand, will attempt to force a seventh game.
