New York Mets agree to acquire starter Rich Hill from Tampa Bay Rays: Reports

  • Hill would play for his 11th MLB team

The New York Mets, on Friday, have agreed to bring aboard renowned pitcher Rich Hill in exchange for Matt Dyer utility man Matt Dyer and relief pitcher Tommy Hunter, according to US media reports.

Hill, who would be getting into his 11th Major League Baseball team, has a 3.87 earned run average (ERA) and has had a smooth stride so far in the ongoing season. 

According to reports from CBS Sports, the Mets have been struggling with a series of injured players. The list of injured players includes David Peterson, Noah Syndergaard, Jacob DeGrom, Joey Lucchesi and Carlos Carrasco among others.

The Mets are considered to have a deep rotation, which has three starter players including Taijuan Walker, Tylor Megill and Marcus Stroman.

On the other hand, Shane McClanahan, Ryan Yarbrough, Luis Patino, Michael Wacha and Josh Fleming are currently leading the rotation for Tampa Bay Rays. 

Hill pitched to a 6-4 record and 3.87 ERA in 19 starts with the Rays this season, according to US media reports.

However, according to multiple reports, the trade deal that includes the transfer of Hill has not been finalised so far. Major League Baseball has set a deadline for such trade deals for July 30, 2021.

Rich Hill, who is a left-handed pitcher, has been associated with 10 Major League Baseball teams so far after kicking off his career in 2002. The 41-year-old has played in Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, Cleaveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, Long Island Ducks, Oakland Athletics.
