New Zealands Tim Southee takes hattrick against India: Top 3 hattricks of 2022
- Kiwi bowler Tim Southee took a hattrick against India on Sunday
- Southee took the wickets of Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar
- India finished with 191 runs on board
India
finished 191 for six at the end of their 20 overs in the T20 cricket match against
New Zealand on Saturday. Suryakumar Yadav’s splendid century, his second in T20
internationals, came in just 49 runs. While India have put up a daunting total
requiring the Kiwis to score at more than nine runs an over from the beginning,
it was not as if the New Zealand bowlers did not rise to the challenge. Tim
Southee, the 34-year-old Kiwi all-rounder took a splendid hattrick that saved
them significant runs.
Hardik
Pandya, India’s captain in the series where Rohit Sharma is being rested, had
scored 13 runs in 12 balls when a slower ball by Tim Southee made him hole out
to James Neesham at long-off. Deepak Hooda, who struggled to get an opportunity
at the T20 World Cup came in next.
Hooda, who
had every reason to try and redeem himself and justify his position in the
Indian playing XI, got out at the very next ball as he hit a length ball straight
to backward fine-leg to the able hands of Lockie Ferguson. Washington Sundar,
walked in next, albeit for just one ball, and chipped it to long-on again to
James Neesham.
Tim Southee
ended up with a hattrick, his second in T20Is.
After Tim
Southee’s splendid bowling spell, here’s a look at 3 other major T20I hattricks
this year:
1. Joshua
Little (Ireland vs New Zealand)
In the T20
World Cup 2022 match between Ireland and New Zealand earlier this month, where
the Kiwis won by a comfortable 35 runs, Irish bowler Joshua little took a
splendid and critical hattrick dismissing the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson,
James Neesham and Mitchell Santner. While Willamson was caught, Neesham and
Santner were out leg before wicket.
2. Michael
Bracewell (New Zealand vs Ireland)
Joshua
Little’s hattrick sure came as revenge for Michael Bracewell’s earlier this year.
While touring Ireland in July, the Kiwis put up a score of 179 for four in the
T20I match at Belfast. The Irish team was all out for 91. One of the people who
ensured the Irish collapse was Michael Bracewell. Bracewell took a hattrick to
dismiss Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy and Craig Young.
3. Jason Holder (West Indies vs England)
In January, West Indies were playing England in
Bridgetown. After West Indies put 179 runs on board, Jason Holder ensured that
the English team could be contained. Holder took a hattrick and more sending
Chris Jordan, Sam Billings, Adil Rashid and Saqib Mahmood back to the pavilion
in four consecutive deliveries. England were all out for 162.
