NFL: Jake Elliott surpasses Paul McFadden for 2nd-most FG in Eagles history

Philadelphia Eagles placekicker Jake Elliott, on Sunday, surpassed Paul McFadden for the second-most field goals in the franchise’s history. The 26-year-old put the Eagles on the board against the Kansas City Chiefs after connecting on a 29-yard field goal. However, the visitors led the second quarter to lead Elliott and company 21-13 at half time. 

Philadelphia lost 30-42.

Jake Elliott has 93 field goals against his name. On his way to the landmark, the Eagles star eclipsed Tony Franklin (412, 1979-83) for the sixth-most points for Philadelphia.

Early in the day, the Eagles announced that right tackle Lane Johnson is inactive for the game against the Chiefs. Johnson is inactive because of a personal matter, the outfit added. 

Philadelphia Eagles came into the game with a blowout loss to the rival Dallas Cowboys. They handed the ball to their running backs only three times among 53 snaps in the game.

Elliott finished the preseason a perfect 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts and 5-for-5 on point-after tries in two appearances. He sat out the Eagles’ second exhibition contest due to an ankle injury, but he otherwise was in midseason form, connecting on field goals ranging from 34 to 50 yards.

The Illinois-based player entered the second year of the extension he signed back in November 2019. 

Meanwhile, in the first half , Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes registered three passing touchdowns in the game against  and went on to add two other TDs in the fourth quarter. He has now recorded at least three passing TDs in each of the games this season and has joined Hall of Famer Steve Young (1998), Kurt Warner (1999) and talismanic Tom Brady (2007) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with three-plus pass TDs in each of their team’s first four games of a season.
