Officer succumbs to injuries, a day after US Capitol Hill violence: Police

  • A police officer named Brian Sicknick died on Thursday night

The US Capitol Police said on Friday that an officer was among those who died in Wednesday’s violence when a mob stormed the Capitol Hill building, Reuters reported.

The police officer named Brian Sicknick died on Thursday night.

“Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters,” the Police said in a statement, according to a Reuters report.

A mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Hill building on Wednesday when the Congress was debating upon certification of Joe Biden’s Electoral College win.

The police had to use tear gas to dispel the mob and lawmakers were forced to take shelter in an underground tunnel.

Four Trump supporters died in Wednesday’s violence.

The attack drew widespread condemnation from within and outside the US.

Despite the attack, the lawmakers went ahead with the business and certified Biden’s win.
