Prince Harry joined Meghan Markle in the second half of Oprah Winfrey’s tell-all interview and said his father, Prince Charles, stopped taking his calls after the couple stepped back from royal family duties.

Celebrity interviewer Oprah asked Harry during a two hour CBS interview with the couple how his relationship had been with Charles since they moved to the United States.

When asked why Charles ignored his calls, Harry said, “Because I took matters into my own hands.”

“It was like I need to do this for my family. This is not a surprise to anybody; it’s really sad that it’s got to this point, but I’ve got to do something for my own mental health, for my wife’s, because I could see where this is headed.”

“There’s a lot to work through there, you know? I feel really let down, because he’s been through something similar. He knows what pain feels like,” Harry added.

Harry added his father and older brother William were “trapped” by the conventions of the monarchy, but vowed that he would “always love” his father.

“My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that.”
