The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee named India’s 15-person team for the T20 World Cup, which will start on October 16 in Australia, more than a week ago. The team saw the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, both of whom had missed out due to their individual ailments.

As a result, the selectors did not make many changes to the roster that had previously been announced for the Asia Cup. One of the adjustments saw the promotion of a young Indian player Ravi Bishnoi to the travelling reserves team, to which the great bowler has since responded with a cryptic message on his social media page.

In the important match against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage, where he finished with 1 for 26, Ravi Bishnoi was chosen for the Asia Cup team and even managed to play in the competition. In that game, he hit an undefeated 8 runs and laced it with two boundaries.

The 22-year-old was relegated to the World Cup standby list, though, as the selection committee chose one additional fast bowler in consideration of the Australian conditions. He joined Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, and Shreyas Iyer on the four-person stand-by list for the competition.

He posted a story to his Instagram account, saying, “The sun will rise, and we will try again.”

Bishnoi was also left out of the squad for the home T20I series against Australia and South Africa.

The youngster made his India debut earlier this year and has appeared in as many as ten games, taking 16 wickets at an economy rate of 7.08 and a strike rate of 14.5. Aside from Bishnoi, fast bowler Avesh Khan has been dropped from India’s World Cup squad, with selectors reintroducing Mohammed Shami into the mix.
