ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith on Friday called out former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia for his comments about ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes.
Garcia had said that one female analyst can never “truly understand the ability, the mindset, the physical and mental toughness that it takes to play the QB position or any position in the NFL.”
On Friday’s edition of First Take, Smith called Garcia’s comments “ridiculous and, quite frankly, sexist.”
“We have women doing outstanding jobs in this business and they deserve their credit and they deserve their respect,” he said.

Garcia’s comments had come after Kimes said on ESPN’s First Take that Jimmy Garoppolo was not the reason San Francisco 49ers have been winning games.
“They’re winning with him, but not because of him … He posted the second-lowest QBR in 15 years [against the Packers],” she said.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Garcia, who played for the 49ers, wrote, “The fact that there are people out there given a platform to talk about something that they have never done is hilarious and that’s how you have to look at her, she’s a joke! So let’s just laugh at her and support Jimmy, root on our Niners to go out and beat the living f*–k out of one more team. That’s what it takes. She will never know that feeling. Can I get an amen? Peace.”

Meanwhile, Stephen A. Smith said that Kimes’ comments on the San Francisco 49ers quarterback were in line with what he has been saying for several years.
“Anybody who knows a scintilla about football understands that while Jimmy G is no scrub, he ain’t the reason the San Francisco 49ers are winning football games,” he said.
