Stephen Curry, the star player for the Golden State Warriors, did not join an elite list this time. He started it. Curry was named the first-ever MVP (Most Valuable Player) in a conference final series.

The Golden State Warriors beat Dallas Mavericks with a score of 120-110 in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals on Thursday night. Celebrations erupted seconds before the game buzzer went off as the crowd roared. The warriors had reached the NBA finals, once again.

The MVP was named after legendary NBA player Magic Johnson, who is known for his association with the Los Angeles Lakers. The award was called the “Magic Johnson Western Conference Finals MVP.”

It should not be a surprise that Curry managed to sweep the award, courtesy of his excellent series and league statistics this year.

Curry’s worst performance in the entire Western Conference finals series against Dallas Mavericks was registered on Thursday. He had 15 points and nine assists. Otherwise, his series average stats were impressive. He had 23.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game.

Similar trends were seen in the regular season. Curry averaged 25.5 points, 6.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game, helping his team push through to the NBA finals. With still at least four games to go until this season is concluded, great things are expected of Curry.

The warriors were recovering from two years of back-to-back defeats. The core line-up of the team was injured through the 2020 and 2021 seasons, blocking the chances of even going through the playoffs.

Golden State will host the winner of the Eastern Conference finals between Boston Celtics and Miami Heat on June 2 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Celtics hold a 3-2 lead heading into Game 6 at home on Friday night.
