Travis Kelce, with his 14th catch of the game in the fourth quarter, broke his own record for tight end catches in a postseason game. The Kansas City Chiefs took on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL divisional playoff at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.

He, however, failed to break the all-time tight end catches in a single postseason game falling short by only one catch. The record in the NFL is held by Darren Sproles from January 2012, when he took 15 catches for the New Orleans Sains vs the San Francisco 49ers.

Who is Darren Sproles?

Former running back and return specialist Darren Sproles now works as a personnel consultant for the National Football League’s Philadelphia Eagles (NFL). He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft while playing college football at Kansas State, where he holds the record for most rushing yards.

He also played for the Eagles and the New Orleans Saints. In 2021, he was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.

In the 2021 NFL divisional playoff game against the 49ers, Sproles put up a brilliant show managing a 44-yard catch and run in the fourth quarter along with his record-breaking 15 catches. The Saints ultimately lost the match 36-32 but Sproles’s record stands unbroken to date.

Sproles excelled in track at Olathe North while in college in addition to playing football. As a junior, he placed second in the state in the 200 metres with a timing of 21.6 seconds. He finished third in the 200 metres with a time of 22.04 seconds and fourth in the 100 metres with a time of 10.93 seconds at Class 6A States.
