Spanish football star Sergio Ramos has joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the club announced Thursday. The ace defender has signed a two-year contract with the French club after 16 years with Real Madrid. He had captained the Spanish club between 2015 and 2021.

As soon as the announcement was made, Sergio Ramos started trending on Twitter. Many users said that Ramos playing for PSG will “take some getting used to.” Another said, “breakups hurt, but look at Sergio Ramos in a jersey other than that of Real Madrid.”

Meanwhile, Ramos said he is “happy” the join the PSG, the club was quoted as saying. “This is a big change in my life, a new challenge and it’s a day I will never forget,” he said, adding that he was “very proud to be a part of this ambitious project, to be a part of this squad with so many great players.”
“Paris Saint-Germain is a club that has already proven itself at the highest level. I want to continue to grow and improve at Paris and help the team to win as many trophies as possible,” the football star added.
As a captain, Ramos had led Real Madrid to win four UEFA Champions League titles. The team also lifted two La Liga trophies between 2015 and 2021.

While he played for his national team, the Spanish side lifted the FIFA World Cup in 2010. The team also won two UEFA Euros in 2008 and 2012. In total, he has made 180 appearances for his national team.
