Fury knocks out Wilder to retain WBC and Lineal Heavyweight title
- The win extends Tyson Fury's undefeated professional record to 32 fights
- Wilder floored Fury twice in the fourth round with a succession of hard rights
- "I always say I am the best fighter in the world and he is the second best," Fury said
Tyson Fury delivered a thrilling knockout blow to Deontay Wilder in the 11th round to retain his WBC and Lineal Heavyweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday.
A pulsating conclusion to an epic trilogy saw both fighters recover after being floored multiple times, with the ‘Gypsy King‘ prevailing in the ultimate battle of grit and resolve.
Fury was floored twice in the fourth round as the ‘Bronze Bomber‘ landed hard rights in quick succession after hitting the mat himself in the third.
Wilder absorbed an incredible amount of punishment throughout the bout but somehow not only managed to stay on his feet but also dished out some heavy blows to the Briton for much of the bout.
Fury floored Wilder once again midway through the 10th round, but the physically drained American once again stunned the crowd and his oppositon in the dying seconds of the round, landing a huge right to stay in the fight.
However, Fury ended the fight in the 11th, landing one final right hook on Wilder’s ear to send him to the floor and end his unbeaten streak.
“It was a great fight,” Fury said after the fight. “It was worthy of any trilogy in the history of the sport. He’s a top fighter, and he gave me a real test tonight”.
“I was down a couple of times, I was hurt, Wilder is a strong puncher. I always say I am the best fighter in the world and he is the second best. Don’t ever doubt me. When the chips are down I can always deliver,” the 33-year-old added.
The win saw Fury extend his unbeaten streak to 32 fights, which include 22 knockouts. This was his second straight knockout in three bouts against Wilder, bringing one of the great modern-era heavyweight boxing trilogies to a close.
