Utah Utes‘ Aaron Lowe was killed in a shooting on Sunday at a house party, according to media reports citing police officials. The 21-year-old, who played as a sophomore cornerback for the team,  was killed hours after midnight.

The news of Lowe’s death comes less than a year after his teammate Ty Jordan was killed in an accidental shooting.

Officials from the Salt Lake City police said that in addition to Lowe, the incident had another victim, a female, who was in a critical condition. Authorities continue to look for a suspect.

Hours before the incident on early Sunday, the Utes beat the Washington State team with a score of 24-13, according to reports from Associated Press.

Kyle Whittingham, the coach for the Utah Utes, said reacted to the killing of Lowe and said, “We are devastated to hear about the passing of Aaron Lowe. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family and friends, along with the other individual who was harmed in this tragic incident”, according to reports from Associated Press.

Whittingham added, “Aaron was a great teammate, friend, brother and son and was loved by anyone who crossed paths with him. He will be deeply missed.”

Spencer Cox, the governor of Utah and a member of the Republican party, also passed his condolences to Lowe’s family. He wrote, “Abby and I mourn with our @UUtah family and friends at the tragic passing of Aaron Lowe this morning. Our prayers are with his family at this terribly difficult time.”

Mark Harland, athletic director for the Utah team, said in a statement, “Aaron was a terrific young man, a leader on our football team, and a rock of resiliency and courage. Our prayers are with Aaron’s family, friends, teammates and all who knew and loved him.”
