Watch Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal after Manchester United return

He is back! Cristiano Ronaldo marked the beginning of his second stint with Manchester United with a goal moments before the halftime whistle. The No 7’s goal gave the hosts a 1-0 lead over Newcastle United. 

Mason Greenwood low shot from the right got saved by visiting goalkeeper Woodman only for Ronaldo to pounce on the rebound and send it to the back of the net.

This was Ronaldo’s first goal in the red jersey in 12 years and 124 days.

Ronaldo returned to the Old Trafford camp after spending six seasons between 2003 and 2009. He won two major trophies with the club. 

Ronaldo scored 118 goals for Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid where he won four Champions League titles.

“He is one of the best, of course, in the air. His desire to get on the end of crosses is second to none. He knows the game more, which positions to drop into, and when to run in behind. And he’s still as quick, it looks like from the stats. He is a shining, leading star for everyone to look up to, and he’s going to be a leader in this dressing room,” United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had said before the game. 

On Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo received a hero’s welcome at Old Trafford. Ronaldo returned to the Manchester United last month from Juventus. 

Ronaldo, who has won the Ballon d’Or five times, is sporting a number 7 jersey. Ronaldo is joined by the other summer signings of Manchester United — Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho. The star-studded Manchester United team also includes Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
