Who is Abdulrahman Al-Jassim, referee for FIFA World Cup 2022 Croatia vs Morocco third-place playoff?

Abdulrahman Al-Jassim will take charge of the FIFA World Cup 2022 third-place playoff match between Croatia and Morocco on Saturday, December 17. The match will be played at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. 

Croatia lost the first semi-final to Argentina and Morocco lost the second one to France. They will have the chance to fight for the bronze medal and the cash prize for third place. Although the match will not be as important as the previous ones in the tournament, it will certainly be a tightly-fought contest.

Who is Abdulrahman Al-Jassim?

Abdulrahman Al-Jassim was born on October 14, 1987 in Qatar. He has been a full international referee accredited by FIFA since 2013.

He served as one of the match officials during the 2017 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in South Korea. For the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Al-Jassim was chosen to serve as a video assistant referee in several matches. Additionally, Al-Jassim was chosen to officiate at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates. He also officiated the 2020 AFC Champions League Final in Qatar.

As part of a referee exchange scheme between CONCACAF and the AFC, which had previously seen Mexican official César Arturo Ramos officiate at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, it was confirmed in June 2019 that Al-Jassim would officiate in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup. 

On November 14, the FIFA Referees Committee named Abdulrahman as one of a trio of all-Qatari officials for the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar. At the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, they presided over the championship match between Liverpool and Flamengo.
