Who is George Foreman?

George Edward Foreman, born January 10, 1949, is a former professional boxer, entrepreneur, clergyman, and author from the United States. He was known as “Big George” in boxing and competed between 1967 and 1997. He has two world heavyweight titles and an Olympic gold medal. He is best known as the inventor of the George Foreman Grill.

After a rough childhood, Foreman began boxing as an amateur and earned a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Summer Olympics. After turning professional the following year, he won the world heavyweight title in 1973 with a dramatic second-round knockout of then-unbeaten Joe Frazier.

He defended the championship twice before succumbing to Muhammad Ali in the legendary Rumble in the Jungle in 1974. After losing to Jimmy Young in 1977 and being unable to obtain another title shot, Foreman retired.

Foreman became an ordained Christian minister after experiencing what he called a religious experience. Ten years later, he announced his comeback, and in 1994, at the age of 45, he defeated 26-year-old Michael Moorer to win the unified WBA, IBF, and lineal heavyweight championships.

Following a solitary IBF title defence on June 28, 1995, Foreman resigned his championship – the final major belt he ever held. He was 46 years and 169 days old, making him the world’s oldest heavyweight champion.

Foreman is a member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Foreman is ranked as the eighth-greatest heavyweight of all time by the International Boxing Research Organization.

Until 2004, he worked as a ringside analyst for HBO’s boxing programme. He is a successful entrepreneur who is most known for his promotion of the George Foreman Grill, which has sold over 100 million units worldwide. He sold the commercial rights to the grill for $138 million in 1999.
