Jeff Van Gundy’s 16-year run as ESPN’s NBA analyst has come to an end as a result of cost-cutting measures.

The 61-year-old Van Gundy is one of the prominent figures leaving ESPN, which has revealed it is making cutbacks today, according to The New York Post.

According to The Post, Van Gundy earned a salary in the millions, though the precise sum is unknown.

Who is Jeff Van Gundy?

Jeffrey William Van Gundy, a former basketball coach and ESPN analyst, was born in the United States on January 19, 1962.

Van Gundy was raised in the community of Martinez, California, after being born in Hemet, California.

He is the son of Bill Van Gundy, a former basketball head coach at Genesee Community College and SUNY Brockport.

Stan, Jeff’s older brother, was previously the head coach and director of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons as well as the NBA’s Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and New Orleans Pelicans.

In 1979 and 1980, Van Gundy, a point guard in high school, was chosen twice for the All Greater Rochester team while guiding Brockport Central to the Class AA finals. He continued playing basketball at Nazareth University, where he won All-American honors and guided the Golden Flyers to a spot in the 1984 NCAA Division III Tournament. With an 86.8% lifetime free throw rate, he continues to hold the top spot at Nazareth.

Jodie Foster and Van Gundy were classmates at Yale University until Van Gundy transferred to Menlo College and eventually earned his degree from Nazareth University in 1985.

Gundy was the National Basketball Association’s head coach of the Houston Rockets and the New York Knicks. He guided the New York Knicks to the 1999 NBA Finals, when they were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs.
