Spain’s football federation has issued a legal threat against Jennifer Hermoso, a prominent player in the country’s soccer scene. The federation alleged that Hermoso made false statements about an incident in which she claimed to have been kissed by the federation president, Luis Rubiales.

Hermoso, in a statement made on Friday, asserted that she did not give her consent for the kiss from the head of Spanish soccer. This incident reportedly occurred during the medal ceremony following Spain’s victory in the Women’s World Cup.

Who is Jennifer Hermoso?

Jennifer “Jenni” Hermoso Fuentes, a renowned Spanish professional footballer, was born on May 9, 1990. She now competes for the Liga MX Femenil team, CF Pachuca, and the Spain women’s national team. She has the extraordinary distinction of having scored the most goals ever for the Spanish national team and FC Barcelona. She also had a significant impact on Spain’s victory at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she was honored with the prestigious Silver Ball award.

Hermoso spent eight formative years honing her skills in the youth teams at her local club, Atlético Madrid, where she started her path to football greatness. She then switched to Rayo Vallecano, where in 2011 she won her first senior-level title. She made her first move overseas to Tyresö FF in Sweden in 2013, and her exceptional talent earned her a place in the world arena. She displayed her talent the following year at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013, where she scored her first competitive international goal in a group-stage victory over England.
