Chelsea is prepared to join the race to sign Mohammed Kudus after allegedly making contact with Ajax to do so. The Athletic claims that although the London club has not yet made a formal bid to sign the Ajax midfielder, they are ‘close’ to reaching a personal agreement and that first discussions have already taken place.

According to Mail Sport, Kudus has already rejected an extension offer from Ajax in April after informing the Dutch powerhouses that he wanted to leave in the summer. His contract is slated to end in 2025.

Who is Mohammed Kudus?

Mohammed Kudus is a Ghanaian professional footballer. He was born on August 2, 2000, in Accra, Ghana. Kudus is a technical wizard with exceptional dribbling and goal-scoring talents who primarily plays as an attacking midfielder.

Kudus started his professional career at the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana before relocating to Europe and joining FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark in 2018. He displayed his talent and garnered the interest of bigger clubs while playing for Nordsjaelland.

Mohammed Kudus made a huge transfer in July 2020 to join AFC Ajax, one of the top football teams in the Netherlands and Europe. Kudus was viewed as a promising addition to the Ajax team because of their track record of nurturing young players.

Arsenal and Brighton are both interested in signing Kudus. The Ghanaian international was signed by the Eredivisie team in 2020 for £8 million after making an impression while playing for his previous club FC Nordsjaelland. He would have a difficult time establishing himself in the team after Anthony, who left for Manchester United in 2022, at the beginning of his stay in Amsterdam.

Kudus was second in line, but after the Brazilian left, he led the Dutch team, scoring 11 goals in 30 league games the previous year. He was crucial to Ajax’s success in the Champions League the previous season as well, scoring in four of his six matches, most notably against Liverpool at Anfield.

Ajax is set to hold out for £40 million for the Ghanaian international who performed admirably in the Champions League last year.
