Waterskiing champion Micky Geller, who last year assisted the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in winning the national title, has passed away at the age of just 18.

The cause of the death has not been revealed yet. As per his relatives, Geller passed away all of a sudden on May 6.

Who was Micky Geller?

Micky Geller was an 18-year-old boy, who started his athletic career in gymnastics at a very young age. After which he tried his hands at rock climbing and then waterskiing, where he got recognised.

Geller, a native of Carp, Ontario, started participating in water sports when he was only four years old. He had a full scholarship for waterskiing and was attending ULL to study kinesiology and marketing.

According to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Geller was ranked sixth in the world as a junior water skier in the U21 jump and also participated in Canada’s junior national waterski team. The University mourned the sudden demise of Geller, and said, “His friends and family remain in the thoughts, hearts and prayers of many at the University”.

The Canada water ski team also condoled the death and said, “his amazing work ethic, unending passion, humour, athleticism, and charisma”.

Geller’s family in his obituary wrote, “Our boy will be remembered for his empathy, passion, strength, fearlessness, drive, discipline and limitless potential” and also said, “With his full throttle approach to life, Micky experienced more in his 18 years than many ever will”.

The University of Louisiana-Lafayette also paid homage to the star athlete by flying flags at half mast on Thursday to honor Geller. A funeral service was held in Ottawa on Thursday.
