“Will resolve itself”: Erik ten Hag to Manchester United chiefs on de Jong situation

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly asked the club’s officials to wait out the drama that has been unfolding over quite some time now in regards to the Frenkie de Jong transfer. Although the situation has been playing out over 13 weeks till date, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils manage to get their hands on their prime target of this transfer season.
Barcelona, the club de Jong currently represents, is said to be willing to let go of the Dutch international. A transfer fee of £56.2 million, with add-ons pushing the price to around £72 million, has been agreed upon by both parties. However, the Catalan giants are yet to pay the €17 million wages that they owe to de Jong. Diario Sport reports that United will likely take care of the debts in order to sign the 25-year-old.

However, ten Hag is of the opinion that the situation will resolve itself since Barca do want to take de Jong’s name off their ever-expanding wage bill. The situation has further complicated now with Chelsea also being named as a potential destination for the midfielder. United legend and football pundit Gary Naville has himself tweeted regarding the same:
Barcelona have already boosted their squad ahead of the 2022-23 season’s commencement by signing players like Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde.

United have signed some special players themselves post their dismal performance in the previous season. Former Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez and former Bournemouth player Christian Eriksen have joined the red side of Manchester.
Another situation which is haunting United fans is the probable departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has asked the club to free him from his two-year contract. The Portuguese superstar recently played for United in their pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano, but was substituted after the first half, post which he left the stadium.
