Indian cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra on Sunday commented on opener Shafali Verma’s wicket early in India’s World Cup game vs Pakistan. The two sides clash at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
India were reduced to 98/3 in 24 overs against Pakistan after a well-set Smriti Mandhana handed a low catch to Anam Amin off her own bowling. The left-hander scored 52 runs off 75 balls with the help of three boundaries and one six.

Pakistan dismissed Deepti Sharma (40 off 57) and Mandahana withing two runs as Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur arrived at the crease. India had, very early in the innings, lost explosive opener Shafali Verma.
On the last ball of the third over, Pakistan’s leading spinner Diana Baig bowled Verma for a duck. The 26-year-old angled the ball into the right-hander as Shafali verma went for a slog, losing her leg-stump.

Commenting on the dismissal, Aakaash Chopra tweeted, ” You live by the sword, you die by the sword. #ShefaliVerma #WWC2022 #CricketTwitter.”
Verma is an explosive batsman known for hitting big sixes and dealing in boundaries. Losing her wicket early in the innings put India on the backfoot. The 18-year-old came up as a promising cricketer after she provided flying starts to India in the ICC T20 World Cup two years ago.

However, Verma’s ODI numbers are yet to reflect her brilliance. After making her 50-over debut against England in Bristol, the right-handed batter has averaged 23.63 and a strike rate of 75.14 in the format.
