Eric Emerson Schmidt, born on April 27 in the year 1955, is an American businessman and software engineer best known as Google’s CEO from 2001 to 2011, executive chairman from 2011 to 2015, executive chairman of Alphabet Inc from 2015 to 2017, and Technical Advisor at Alphabet from 2017 to 2020.

Schmidt 1975 was a Bell Labs intern who co-wrote Lex, a software package for creating lexical analyzers for the Unix computer operating system. He was Novell’s chief executive officer (CEO) from 1997 to 2001. He has served on numerous additional boards in academia and industry, including the Carnegie Mellon University, Apple, Princeton University, and Mayo Clinic Boards of Trustees.

Schmidt campaigned for Barack Obama in 2008, during his term as Google chairman, and afterward joined Obama’s President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, along with Eric Lander. Lander went on to work as Joe Biden’s science advisor. Schmidt, in the meantime, had departed Google and started the nonprofit initiative Schmidt Futures in 2017. Schmidt Futures supplied salaries for two science-office personnel in the Office of Science and Technology Policy during Lander’s term.

Schmidt was ranked 54th on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index in April 2022, with an estimated net worth of $25.1 billion.
