Five things that don’t add up in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case

It’s been 51 days since actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his flat in Mumbai on June 14, and we are no closer to any answers to the questions that his death raised. In fact, everyday a new dimension is added to the case — missing money, Bihar police vs Mumbai police and charges of blackmail and abetment to suicide.

Sushant’s father, KK Singh, filed a case in Patna accusing his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty of abetting his suicide and blackmailing him. She in her petition sought that the case be shifted to Mumbai. The Patna police team that landed in Mumbai for probe accused the city police of stonewalling them. These action-filled days were peppered with reports of a close friend of Sushant changing stand in his statement to police and also his version of how ex-manager Disha Salian’s death impacted Sushant.

Here’s a look at the questions that still haven’t been answered:

Why was no action taken on a complaint filed on February 25 by Sushant Singh Rajput’s father?

Sushant Singh Rajput’s father has said that he had complained to Bandra Police on February 25, saying his son was in danger. “I had asked them to take action against people named in the complaint, but nothing happened,” KK Singh said.

A statement by Mumbai Police says no written complaint was filed on that day. “One OP Singh IAS (Sushant’s brother-in-law) had sent some WhatsApp messages to then DCP, zone… the DCP called OP Singh and told him to file a written complaint. However, Mr Singh wanted to resolve it informally to which DCP, zone told him clearly that it was not possible.”

Was Sushant Singh Rajput suffering from bipolar disease?

Mumbai police say the actor was suffering from bipolar disorder, a mental condition characterised by extreme mood swings. Sushant’s therapist Susan Walker told multimedia platform Mojo , “Sushant was suffering from bipolar disorder, a severe mental illness that can be crippling for an individual during an episode. The symptoms of which can include severe anxiety, major depression and sometimes disordered thinking and paranoia.

Sushant’s brother-in-law Vishal Kirti questioned Susan’s diagnosis, asking how she (Walker) could have come to that conclusion in less than two months. “Diagnosing mental disorders is an arduous task and diagnosing someone Bipolar (I or II) is even more so. Not only do you have to observe the person very closely, but you also have to observe them over long periods of time (it takes six years on average to diagnose after the onset of symptoms). Susan very conveniently diagnoses Sushant in less than two months (perhaps over a couple of appointments), with a life-changing diagnosis,” he said.

Where is the money that has gone missing from Sushant Singh Rajput’s bank account?

In the complaint, Sushant’s father had said, “In 2019, Sushant had Rs 17 crore in his account but within months, Rs 15 crore was transferred to the accounts not linked to him. It should be investigated how much of that money has been defrauded by Rhea and her associates.”

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is probing where the Rs 15 crore was transferred. They have sought details, including a copy of FIR filed based on a complaint by KK Singh. The ED has also questioned Rhea Chakraborty’s CA.

How did Siddharth Pithani’s email to Mumbai police get into Rhea’s petition?

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family lawyer Vikas Singh has raised questions over how an email that Rajput’s friend Siddharth Pithani wrote only to Mumbai Police reached Rhea Chakraborty.

“…he (Siddharth) was talking to the family and trying to help by telling them that Rhea Chakraborty has been instrumental in whatever happened to Sushant. Suddenly, he has done a volte-face. I don’t know what happened, but I hope the police get to the bottom of the matter soon and find out what role he (Pithani) played in this case and whether he has any information that he hasn’t shared,” said Vikas.

Paithani’s email to Mumbai Police reportedly talks about alleged pressure from Rajput’s family to speak against Rhea Chakraborty. The email found its way into Rhea’s petition against the FIR filed by Rajput’s father.

Is there a link between Rajput’s and his ex-Manager Disha Salian’s deaths?

“Sushant Singh Rajput was upset after his name was linked to the death of his ex-manager Disha Salian,” said Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. Disha died 5 days before Sushant, and a case of accidental death was registered. “Sushant would search for articles and his name on Google to find out what was being written about him,”Mumbai police said. What was Rajput searching for? What did he fear might appear in the media?

Rajput’s friend Siddharth Pithani told the media that Disha was Sushant’s manager for a very brief time. Sushant kept crying the day he learned of Disha’s death, he added. “His sister was there to take care of him that time… He fainted also. His sister and I were in the same room. We all saw how badly it affected him,” Pithani added.
