US President Joe Biden, on Thursday, boasted about the bipartisan spirit of the Republican and Democratic leaders to find consensus on the controversial American infrastructure plan.

“I’ve said many times before: there’s nothing our nation can’t do when we decide to do it together. Today is the latest example of that truth”, said Biden while emphasising the bipartisan support for the bill.

However, he added that “neither side got everything they need in this deal” further hinting that the negotiations between the Democratic and Republican leaders were intense.

“I know there are some in my party who discouraged me from seeking an agreement with our Republican colleagues”, said Biden while answering questions from reporters in the White House. However, he later added that his “party is divided, but his party is rational”.

In a tweet posted hours before the address, Biden announced the bipartisan deal with a group of US Senators to flag off the efforts for revitalising America’s infrastructure.

“We’ve struck a deal. A group of senators – five Democrats and five Republicans – has come together and forged an infrastructure agreement that will create millions of American jobs”, the President’s tweet read.

The President sat down with the lawmakers at the White House to cap weeks of negotiations on Capitol Hill, where Democrats and Republicans have squared off in tense negotiations over the size and scope of the funding, reported AFP.

The US House of Representatives and the US Senate are expected to vote on the infrastructure bill, which has been a contentious topic so far, later this summer, according to indications from Democratic lawmakers.
