Hackers broke into US President Donald Trump’s website for a short period of time on Tuesday, officials said, AFP reported.

“This site was seized,” read a popup message on donaldjtrump.com, which normally carries information about his rallies and fundraising appeals.

“The world has had enough of the fake-news spreaded daily by president donald j trump”, the message went to say, US media reported.

However, the site was quickly fixed and no sensitive data was compromised, Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said.

“The Trump campaign website was defaced and we are working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the source of the attack,” Murtaugh said.

According to Techcrunch, the hack appeared to be a scam to collect hard-to-trace cryptocurrency Monero.

The hackers claimed to have confidential information about the president and his family.

They instructed the visitors to send cryptocurrency to an address if they wanted the data disclosed.
