The cause of the death of Michael K Williams, the iconic actor who was found dead in his apartment in Brooklyn on September 6, has been revealed. According to the revelation, the actor died of an overdose of fluorofentanyl, heroin and cocaine.
The cause of death of “The Wire” actor was reported by Variety, quoting a spokesperson for New York City’s chief medical examiner’s office.

Williams was known for his iconic roles in series such as “The Wire” and “Boardwalk Empire,” as well as films like “12 Years A Slave” and “Inherent Vice.” The actor was found surrounded by narcotics at the time of his death.
Williams had a history of drug use which he admitted to on several occasions during his life.
He recounted harrowing tales of his brush with drugs as he rose to stardom and fame on “The Wire” in a 2012 profile in the New Jersey Star-Ledger. He admitted to doing drugs “in scary places with scary people.”

“I was playing with fire. It was just a matter of time before I got caught and my business ended up on the cover of a tabloid or I went to jail or, worse, I ended up dead,” Williams had told the publication back then.
He again admitted to drug use in 2017 in an interview with the New York Times. This time, he revealed that he was on cocaine while he was filming “The Night of”.
“The characters that mean the most to me are the ones that damn near kill me. It is a sacrifice I have chosen to make,” he had told the the New York Times.

Williams’ spokesperson, in a statement to the Guardian, had asked for privacy for the actor’s family at the time of his death.. The spokesperson said that it is “with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss”, the Guardian reported.
