Alaska helicopter crash: Five dead, one critically injured

At least five people have been reported dead while one sustained severe injuries after a helicopter crash near Knik glacier in Alaska, according to state authorities.

While the initial reports about the crash were recorded by the Alaska State Troopers on Saturday night, the AS50 Eurocopter reportedly crashed around 6:35 pm near Butte, according to a statement released by the Federal Aviation Administration, reported ABC News.

While the cause of the incident remains unclear, authorities announced that a rescue team was swiftly dispatched for the crash site and found five who succumbed to their injuries while one was rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment. 

The identities of the casualties were not unveiled by the authorities, however, efforts to contact close relatives are underway.
