All about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ streak of bill signing in 2021

Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, who is also a member of the Republican Party, has organised press conferences since the beginning of this year and has signed multiple legislations approved by the state lawmakers. Most of these bills were put into effect starting July 1, 2021.

DeSantis has signed over 300 bills since the start of the year while only rejecting a handful. On July 1, a total of 162 laws took effect in the state. A few of the most substantial laws implemented are given below: 

1) S-1890 (Campaign financing bill)

The bill will restrict a candidate in elections from making donations of a substantial amount to charities that support their cause. If any individual wishes to donate a sum will be required to give it to the state. 

2) S-148 (Florida’s beverage laws)

Restaurant and food outlets will now be permitted to deal in the sale of alcoholic beverages to consumers on an ‘on the go’ basis. However, the packaging of alcoholic drinks should not be unsealed in vehicles. A similar law was passed in the state of Texas in May earlier this year.

3) H-7017 (Foreign influence law)

The legislation will bind state agencies of Florida and their subsidiary political organisations to be transparent about any gifts or grants received from a source foreign to the state. The state or political bodies will be required to report such gifts to the Department of Financial Services.

4) S-1108 and H-5 (Education)

The combination of these two bills amend the requirements of graduation credit in Florida’s high schools and add a class on civics education to the curriculum. A department to create oral history resources has been created to be used with the school requirements, reported ABC News.

Nearly 30 bills, which have already been signed by DeSantis, will be implemented in Flordia later in 2021 while three bills, so far, have been added to the 2022 schedule, according to reports from CNBC.
