Top infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci has accepted to
become the Chief Medical Adviser in the upcoming Biden administration, Guardian reported on Friday.
Fauci said, when he was asked by President-elect Joe Biden
to stay in his role at the White House, he accepted the offer “on the spot”.
“I said yes right on the spot,” Fauci told the NBC.
In an interview with CNN, Biden disclosed that he had asked
Fauci to stay at White House and lead the battle against the COVID-19.
“I asked him to stay on in the exact same role as he’s had
for the past several presidents, and I asked him to be a chief medical adviser
for me as well and be part of the Covid-19 team,” Biden said, as quoted in the
Guardian.
The Director of National Institute of Allergies and Infectious
Diseases, Fauci has had an uneasy relationship with the outgoing Trump administration,
with news about their discordant views over how to tackle the pandemic frequently
hitting the headlines.
The issue between the two flared up to a high degree over the
Donald Trump’s playing down the use of masks, a measure Fauci has advocated since the beginning of the pandemic.
