Arrest warrant issued against Donald Trump for Iranian general’s murder
- The warrant is issued on the charge of premeditated murder of Iraqi paramilitary commander, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis
- Abu was the deputy head of Iraq's largely pro-Iran Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary network
- The warrant is issued under Article 406 of the Iraq penal code
An
arrest warrant against the US President Donald Trump has been issued on Thursday
by a Baghdad court on the charge of premeditated murder of Iraqi paramilitary commander, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, AFP reported.
The warrant for Trump’s arrest is issued under Article 406
of the penal code, which provides for the death penalty in all cases of
premeditated murder, the judiciary said.
The preliminary investigation in the matter had been accomplished but the court assured that the inquiries will be continued in order to unmask the other culprits in this crime, irrespective of their origin.
Earlier, Iran also issued a warrant for Trump’s arrest in June, and asked Interpol to
relay it as a so-called red notice to other police forces around the world, a
request that has so far gone unmet.
Abu
Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s largely pro-Iran Hashed al-Shaabi
paramilitary network, died in the same US drone strike that killed storied
Iranian general Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad airport on January 3 last year.
The drone strike that resulted in the twin killings of the Two Iranian Generals was ordered by President Donald Trump and was dubbed as ‘arbitrary’ and ‘illegal’ by the UN special rapporteur for extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Agnes Callamard.
Meanwhile, marking the first anniversary of Soleimani’s assassination by the US, country’s Judiciary Chief, Ebrahim Raisi, warned last week that his killers will ‘not be safe on Earth’.
Similar statements were made by top Iranian authorities, including supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had previously said that all those involved in general’s killing would face retribution.
