As mail-in vote row intensifies in US, protesters give wake-up call to Postmaster General
- Postmaster General DeJoy was appointed in May
- He is one of the biggest donors of Donald Trump
- USPS warned that millions of mail-in-votes might not arrive by November 3
Protestors who are unhappy with the recent reforms of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy staged a demonstration outside his home in Washington, DC on Saturday. They called for support for the US Postal Service (USPS). The demonstration was led by the activist group ‘Shut Down DC.’
“This morning we stopped by Post-Master General Louis DeJoy’s house to give him a wake-up call. We need the postal service to Deliver Democracy this fall. Stop the attack on our mail,” the group tweeted.

DeJoy one of the biggest donors of Donald Trump was appointed as the Post Master General in May. He had reassigned much of the existing USPS leadership and ordered the removal of mail sorting machines that are fundamental to the functioning of the postal service, a move that had received a lot of flak.
Earlier today, the US Postal Service had warned that millions of mail-in-votes might not arrive by November 3, the scheduled date for the US Presidential elections. “Louis DeJoy, one of Donald Trump’s big donors, is dismantling the US Postal Service ahead of mass mail-in voting in the 2020 presidential election,” the group accused.

The President had been criticising the mail-in voting for months stating that it would lead to “one of the greatest frauds in history.” Mail-in voting is a common process in the US where millions of Americans – including much of the military – have used the post office to cast absentee ballots for years. No case of ‘fraud’ as Trump claims it has been reported yet.
Meanwhile, democrats fear that Trump might eventually hold on to the narrative and might try to steal the election if he loses, in November.
