The US security authorities on Wednesday warned the hospitals and healthcare providers of “an imminent cybercrime threat” and asked them to increase protection.

In an advisory released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and two other security agencies, the authorities said that hackers can target “credible information” using ransomware that can lead to “data theft and the disruption of healthcare services.”

The threat comes amid US health workers battle COVID-19, which killed nearly 226,000 in the country until now.
