Billboard Music Awards 2021: Taylor Swift wins Top Female Artist

The lockdown period has been a blessing in disguise for American songwriter Taylor Swift. After weaving magic at the recently-held Grammys, the singer was awarded the Top Female Artist at the Billboard Music Awards 2021. She won the accolade for ‘Folklore’.

The event, which was hosted by Nick Jonas, saw The Weeknd lead the pack in a mind-boggling 16 categories.
Other artists in the Top Female Artist category were:
Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion and Ariana Grande.
The Billboard Music Awards are based on the period – March 21, 2020- April 3, 2021. In the total of 51 categories, two are fan-voted, including top collaboration and social artist.

In the Grammys, Swift became the first woman to win the coveted Album of the Year prize three times, this year for “folklore,” the first of her twin quarantine releases.
Swift bested contenders including Post Malone, Coldplay, Dua Lipa, sister act Haim and the Black Pumas to win the award.

Only three other artists have won Album of the Year three times — Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and Frank Sinatra.
It’s been a banner year for Swift, the one-time Grammy darling who surprised her legions of fans not once but twice during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, releasing “folklore” over the summer and “evermore” as an early holiday gift.
