Boston Celtics closing in on trade deal for Orlando Magic’s Evan Fournier: Report

The Boston Celtics are closing in on a deal for Orlando Magic guard Evan Fournier. The deal, coming just ahead of the NBA’s 3 pm trade deadline, will include two second-round picks going the other way, ESPN reported quoting sources.

Orlando have already traded Nikola Vucevic to the Chicago Bulls for Wendell Carter Jr and a pair of first-round picks and are open to offers for Aaron Gordon, with the Celtics reported to be keen on the 25-year-old forward as well. 

28-year-old Fournier qualifies for Boston’s traded player exception, which was created by Gordon Hayward’s trade last year. Fournier will make $17 million this year and will be a free agent next summer.

Fournier is averaging a career-high 19.7 points and 3.7 assists per game as well as from attempting 7.2 3-pointers with a success rate of 38.8% this season, giving the Celtics a strong scoring option off the bench. He has an average of 14.4 points per game over his nine-year career. 

The Celtics are currently eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 21-23 record.
