Bumble to provide free therapy to sexual assault survivors within its community

In a first of its kind initiative, online dating platform Bumble is set to launch a feature to provide complimentary online trauma support to members who experience or have gone through sexual assault or relationship abuse of any kind. The women-first social media app will collaborate with Bloom for this feature. Bloom is a therapy and self-care app.
According to the press release by the app, Bumble will provide its global community members who have faced sexual assault a chance to seek up to six free therapy sessions, as a part of its trauma support programme. The members will also get one-to-one chat support with the Bloom team.

The free therapy services via Bloom’s full-time staff to an initial pool of users will begin later this year and can be expected to expand.
Apart from personal support, the platforms will also provide a library of resources created by survivors and trauma-informed therapists.
Bloom is run by Chayn, a survivor-led non-profit addressing gender-based violence by creating intersectional resources online.
An innovative initiative to address support and mental health, Bloom’s services are made for survivors by survivors. Since 2020, the app has built a community of qualified and trauma-informed staff in addition to a global volunteer network to deepen outreach and services, the release states.
According to the release, Bumble and Bloom are working together on a custom curriculum that will initially be available in English and Spanish. This will be followed by French, Hindi, Arabic, and Urdu languages in 2022.

The programme also calls for survivors within the Bumble community to assist in the programming of this offering. The members can share the information through an anonymous survey that will help shape the course content.
Bumble is women-oriented networking and dating platform. Known for its progressive values, safety, and mental health awareness has been one of the focus points for Bumble. The app was launched in 2014 by Whitney Wolfe Herd.
