California earthquake: Tremors felt in Sacramento, East shore; prelim magnitude 5.5 | Photos and Videos

An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck in Northern California on Thursday afternoon around 4:10 pm, with the shocks felt at least as far away as Sacramento.

Preliminary reading has the earthquake at 5.7 magnitudes, but the USGC site updated its figure to 5.4.

According to USGS, the earthquake struck around 2.5 miles southwest of the community of East Shore near Lake Almanor, around 165 miles northeast of Sacramento.

The quake caused a disruption at the California Highway Patrol agency’s Chico dispatch center and the 911 lines are currently down, the agency said. It added that people in the region should call 530-332-1200 to report emergencies.  

At least five aftershocks between 2.5 and 3.0 magnitude were registered within an hour after the original earthquake, according to USGS.
